The environment

Who can stop climate change? We can. We have a responsibility to do so that began when God commanded the earliest human inhabitants of the Garden of Eden to ’till it and keep it’. To keep it; not to abuse it, not to destroy it.

At Shipley Baptist Church we take our responsibility to be good stewards of the earth seriously. Psalm 24 declares that, ‘The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it’. We are assured that creation is God’s gift to us and to future generations. It is not our entitlement, or ours to abuse.

The electricity we use in our building is from 100% renewable sources and our gas from a supplier that is investing in renewable gas. We switched our energy with Christian Aid through The Big Church Switch.

As well as taking practical action to be good stewards, we also campaign to challenge governments, businesses and humanity as a whole to urgently step up to our responsibility for the whole of humanity and our home God’s earth.  As a church community we regularly pray, take action and challenge each other to partner with God in working for a renewed earth.

We have recently become certified as an Eco-church, and received a Bronze Eco Church Award.
