Shipley Baptist Church seeks to take seriously our responsibility for the world God has created and in which we are Stewards.
We hold the Eco-Church Bronze Award and are working towards our Silver Award.
We have a comprehensive recycling programme, we obtain our electricity and gas from a company sourcing zero carbon electricity and who are working towards reduced carbon gas.
We have a garden with a bug hotel and planting which seeks to create a place of peace and tranquillity within the heart of Shipley.
This autumn (September and October 2024) we are actively participating in the season of Creation with a special series of worship services and children’s activities focusing on respect for God’s creation and exploring how we, here in Shipley, can do more to care for God’s creation and to work towards greater sustainability and reducing carbon emissions to mitigate climate change.
Our series launched on 08 September with Martin Butterworth opening up the topic and beginning to challenge us on how we live or own lives.
On Sunday 15 September Keith Jones will help us reflect on God’s gift of clean, drinkable water and how we sustain that in a world where many people are struggling to find safe water.
As the weeks go on, Cath Mawson, Katrina Butterworth, Barb Binder and Katie Jones will help us explore together more of our theology of Creation Care.
