Shipley Baptist Church, West Yorkshire, celebrated their New Year covenant service on 2 January by reciting the Shipley Baptist Covenant together and distributing specially made bookmarks containing the Covenant and the Scripture text for the year, Romans 10 verse 14.
This usual event was marked by the premier of a new song by John Froud (singer/songwriter), a Deacon at Shipley Baptist Church, based on the text from Romans :
How are they to call on one in whom they have believed? And how are they to believe in one whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him ?
The song was an instant hit with the congregation and will be used throughout the year in services at Shipley Baptist Church.
As part of the worship on Covenant Sunday we also sang the song based on SBC Scripture text for 2021 “The light shines in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it” (John 1) and as part of our prayers, John’s setting to music of the SBC Midday prayer.
Commenting on this event, Keith Jones, part of the leadership team at Shipley, said ” the church members and congregation really value having a text for the year and we are always delighted when John accepts a commission to put the text into a song. John’s on-going ministry through the Zephaniah Trust, continues, with the Zephaniah Team, to bring light into dark places in many schools in the City of Bradford and the Spen Valley.”
